Isaiah was a prophet of God who lived in Jerusalem and served the kingdom of Judah. The book of Isaiah contains his prophecies and other messages from God to the people of Israel and to the surrounding nations, many of which concern the coming Savior (e.g., Isaiah 49-51). For this reason he is frequently quoted in the New Testament to show that Jesus is truly the promised and prophesied Savior of the world.
Served as a prophet roughly from 740 BC to 695 BC
