In Short

1

Jesus is true God.

“Theirs (the Jews’) are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of Christ, who is God over all, forever praised!  Amen.”
Romans 9:5

“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.”
Colossians 2:9-10

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men…while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.”
Titus 2:11-14

2

Jesus is also fully a human being.

“Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:20-21

“The gospel of God—the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord.”
Romans 1:1-4

3

Jesus had to be true God and true human being in order to be our Savior.

“No man can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them.”
Psalm 49:7

“But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.”
Galatians 4:4-5

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed…but with the precious blood of Christ.”
1 Peter 1:18-19
